Africola and Skillogalee Estate team up for exclusive ‘Fire and Wines’ event

Amid this festivity, Skillogalee Estate steps into the limelight, hosting two standout experiences that capture the essence of the region.

This year, the Clare Valley SCA Gourmet Week celebrates a significant milestone, marking its 40th anniversary with an array of events that promise to enchant and delight.

Amid this festivity, Skillogalee Estate steps into the limelight, hosting two standout experiences that capture the essence of the region.

First on the calendar, “Fire and Wines” is a collaboration between Africola Sound System and Skillogalee Estate, designed to offer attendees an extraordinarily exclusive experience. Under the guidance of Duncan Welgemoed, Adelaide’s acclaimed culinary wizard, this feast cooked over an open fire will showcase a blend of South African BBQ techniques with North African flavours, all meticulously matched with Skillogalee’s hand-crafted wines.

Set to take place on Saturday 18th May, guests will find themselves enveloped in the natural beauty of Skillogalee Estate, with live music enhancing the atmosphere of this unique outdoor dining experience. Given the limited availability of tickets, early booking is advised to secure a place at this eagerly anticipated gathering.

Duncan said “I love cooking on fire and have never cooked in Clare before, so to do it at a venue like Skillogalee with Guy will be an unforgettable experience for the guests. We will be bringing the party just as Africola does and can’t wait to share it with everyone on the day.”

This very special collaboration with Africola, not only offers the chance to experience two of SA’s most iconic food-and-wine brands together, but also highlights Skillogalee’s dedication to pairing exquisite meals with their fine wines.

But they’re not done there.

“A Skilly Long Lunch” on Sunday, May 26, invites patrons to immerse themselves in an Italian-style feast. This event pairs the best of local produce and the artistry of their winemaking in a stunning afternoon at Skillogalee.

Kerri (KT) Thompson, Skillogalee’s winemaker and a trailblazer in the Clare Valley wine scene, will host the lunch. The feast will feature selections from both Skillogalee’s dry-grown, hand-crafted range and Thompson’s own label, Wines by KT, offering guests a broad taste of the region’s acclaimed drops..

The lunch promises an afternoon of superb food, wine, and company, all set against the backdrop of Skillogalee’s historic stone cottage and verdant surroundings.

Both events are a part of Clare Valley SCA Gourmet Week’s 40th-anniversary celebration—honouring the legacy of the region’s food and wine culture while looking forward to the future of culinary innovation and excellence.

As part of the festival’s amenities, shuttle buses will be available, ensuring attendees can enjoy the week’s offerings without concern for transportation.

Whether you’re drawn by the allure of a fire-cooked feast or the charm of a long Italian lunch at Skillogalee Estate, Clare Valley SCA Gourmet Week offers a splendid way to explore the tastes and tales of this celebrated region.
