After a short opening run, 1000 Reasons returns as a gourmet providore

An Adelaide Hills venue is making a comeback nobody expected to see, after an unexpected closure last November.

It wasn’t all that long ago that a paddock-to-table restaurant, seating nearly 100 people, opened in Echunga. The concept was centred on a traditional Argentinian parrilla and outdoor asado grills, with ingredients sourced from the local producers around the land.

Owner Julie Culley knew the project was ambitious, and with rising employment costs and the challenge of retaining staff in a regional hospitality business. The model quickly became unsustainable and shut down just a couple of months after opening, back in August 2025. “We were basically working for nothing in the end,” Julie shared.

The modern farmhouse venue is now preparing for a reopening in a very different and intentional light, to match Julie’s original focus: simplicity. The original idea was to have a big focus on local produce, selling her own coffee roasts and treats made in-house.

“I just wanted a really lovely providore, with local produce, selling our own coffee, with nice cakes…  but it sort of blew out into this big restaurant, which we didn’t want to have.”

Julie plans for the providore to be the host of a carefully curated selection of high-quality, gourmet food, drinks and local produce. But it’s not a cafe. “I don’t want to be in here waiting tables, it’s just going to be very casual eating facility.”

There’ll be no fixed menu. Instead, guests can drop in for coffee, light bites, seasonal baking or a casual drink and enjoy the views of the Adelaide Hills at their own pace.

The venue will also be used as a diverse space for events, private functions and soon-to-come accommodation options. With their warm and airy indoor facilities, commercial kitchen, cool rooms and a newly landscaped outdoor pergola, the property is perfect for weddings, birthdays and even small celebrations.

Events can be booked as a shared space or an exclusive hire, giving different options and flexibility for each booking. There’ll be options for caterers to come in, and the venue is still fully licensed to enjoy a glass of wine, or possibly two.

The new vibe suits the lifestyle Julie wants to reinforce for her customers and herself: a simple, casual venue for relaxation and, more importantly, interacting. “We want to run some events throughout the calendar year, including chef-led cooking classes for small groups.”

1000 Reasons hopes to encourage local vendors to also book the space for demonstrations and get their products into the community. “ We want to make sure that people are coming in here and learning and engaging with the people that we stock in the providore as well.”

The slogan and branding remain the same, there are still a 1000 reasons to try out the “farm, feast and stay” way of life. “ (We’re) very excited to reopen in a more kinder, friendlier manner rather than a frantic restaurant with dishes flying everywhere,” Julie laughs.

The official opening will be on January 13, then the venue will be open Tuesday to Sunday from 10am to 5pm, with venue hire available seven days a week.
