Rock of Ages to descend on Melbourne

Rock of AgesRodney Rigby for Newtheatricals and the Hon Tim Holding, Minister for Tourism and Major Events, has announced that the critically acclaimed, five-time Tony Award® nominated Broadway musical ROCK OF AGES will open at the Comedy Theatre, Melbourne, in April 2011.

ROCK OF AGES will be produced in Australia by Rodney Rigby together with Broadway producers Carl Levin, Matthew Weaver, Jeff Davis, Barry Habib, Scott Prisand, Janet Billig Rich, Hillary Weaver and Corner Store Fund with the support of the Victorian Major Events Company.

ROCK OF AGES is a hilarious, feel-good love story told through the hit songs such as ‘I Want To Know What Love Is’, ‘The Final Countdown’ and ‘We Built This City’ by iconic rockers such as Foreigner, Journey, Styx, Pat Benatar and many more .

Set in 1987 on the Sunset Strip, a small-town girl meets a big-city dreamer and in LA’s most legendary rock club, they fall in love to the greatest songs of the 80s. It’s an awesome time where big hair meets big dreams in a Rock n’ Roll comedy romance.

ROCK OF AGES was nominated for five 2009 Tony Awards® including Best Musical, Best Actor in a Musical, Best Direction of a Musical, Best Costume Design of a Musical and Best Sound Design for a Musical.

For all those budding theatre stars, auditions for ROCK OF AGES will begin in June 2010, otherwise start saving for a trip away to Melbourne with ROCK OF AGES starting in the COMEDY THEATRE in April 2011.
