AGSA Delivers Second Virtual Teen-Led Event With Neo Shapeshifters

Neo, the Art Gallery of South Australia’s dedicated program for teens, is launching its second free digital event, Neo Shapeshifters.

Neo, the Art Gallery of South Australia’s dedicated program for teens, is launching its second free digital event, Neo Shapeshifters.

While the Gallery is reopening its doors to the public on Friday 5 June following updated guidelines from the South Australian Government, AGSA will continue to offer experiences of its collection, exhibitions and key programs online.

Following the success of Monstrous Neo in April, which attracted over 1,000 participants nationwide, Neo Shapeshifters promises a bold program of even more teen-led experiences.

Taking place online and over social media, the interactive program for 13 – 17 year olds will launch on the Neo homepage of AGSA’s website on the night of Saturday 6 June.

Launching on the night of a full moon, Neo Shapeshifters features exclusive online experiences responding to the wicked works of the 2020 Adelaide Biennial of Australian Art: Monster Theatres and is led by Neo’s teen ambassadors and local and national contemporary artists.

Neo Shapeshifters comprises a program full of online creative experiences led by the experts, including miniature set-building, collaboratively presented by Monster Theatres artist Erin Coates and emerging teen artist Iona McDonough, a live online dance party with Guru Dudu, anatomical drawing lab with Thomas Readett, interactive TikTok dance duets with local choreographer Petra Pzabo with the chance to win a $50 voucher, live Dungeons & Dragons gaming sessions, plus much more.

Teens will have the opportunity to showcase their creativity with the opportunity for young artists to enter the South Australian Living Artists (SALA) Festival through Neo for the first time ever!

Made possible through the support of The Balnaves Foundation, Neo has welcomed more than 6000 teens to the Gallery since its inception in 2016, with hopes that recent online iterations will increase artistic engagement and access for all.

Neo is a FREE event for 13 – 17 year olds. Neo Shapeshifters will launch online on Saturday 6 June from 6:00 – 8:30pm. For further information on the event and to access the online event visit: www.agsa.sa.gov.au/whats-on/ongoing-programs/neo/
