Since 2019, South Australian towns that are excelling in agricultural practices and the positive effect they have on rural communities have been recognised through the South Australian Agricultural Town of the Year Award.

The AgTown of the Year award, as it’s affectionately known, highlights the importance of developing and maintaining a strong and vibrant agriculture sector in South Australia and now the quest to find the 2022 winner is on, with public voting now open!

A total of 54 towns across the state have been nominated and anyone is eligible to cast a vote for their favourite town that will vie for the title of 2022 South Australian Agricultural Town of the Year. Places such as Coffin Bay, Mount Gambier, Tanunda and Myponga are just a few of the towns eligible in this years vote. See the full list here.

Minister for Primary Industries and Regional Development, Clare Scriven said “Regional communities are the backbone of our state and the economic powerhouse driving prosperity for South Australia.

“Industries in our regions contribute $29 billion to the state’s economy each year and following the challenges of recent years, it’s never been more important to celebrate this contribution.”

Five finalist towns will be announced in early August and will go through an independent judging process to determine which will be named Ag Town of the Year.

The Eyre Peninsula farming town of Kimba, which has a rich agricultural history, came out victorious in last year’s awards, with the towns younger generation being recognised for driving many agricultural initiatives and spurring the rest of the community.

“All South Australians benefit from our strong agricultural sector and regional communities,” says Clare. “I encourage everyone who values our regions to get online, show your support and vote for your favourite town.”

Voting is open now until Monday 25 July 2022. To vote for your favourite, click here.
