Eve is named after Kidjo’s mother and is dedicated to the power of African womanhood and particularly those she grew up with in Benin.

From the opening track ‘M’Baamba’ (or Kenyan Song), Eve is full of energy and body, typical of the multi-layered sounds synonymous with African music.

Using traditional women’s choirs from Kenya and other cities, Eve is a both melodic and a powerful expression of female empowerment. It is also a showcase for Kidjo’s strength in both her soulful chants and soothing ballads like ‘Blewu’, which changes the mood from joyful to somber, but then takes you right back to the energetic Afro-funk, reggae, and samba sounds of African music with ‘Kulumbu’.

This latest offering from the supreme diva of Africa is glorious and brings a smile to the soul in that it is honest and heartfelt, telling not only the tales of hardship and struggle for African women, but of the triumphs of the soul in overcoming adversity. Eve should no doubt do well upon its release late January!
