The definition of “Alimentary” is emblazoned on the café’s staff shirts. The word means “relating to nourishment or sustenance,” and that’s what they promise for their special Mother’s Day dinner.
The Brighton favourite is putting together a South American-inspired menu for your mum’s big day, and dishes include a variety of entrees, mains, sides, and desserts. For entrees, there’s grilled chorizo with chim-churri, SA mussels with picada sauce, Argentinean cheese fondue, churrasco vegetable empanadas, and garlic and rosemary ciabatta.
For mains, there is Spanish paella, churrasco aside angus scotch fillet, peppered chicken breast, and NT barramundi. There are also zesty sides and churros and panna cotta for dessert.
Alimentary is usually known for colourful brunches and lunches, with dishes such as apple crumble pancakes with fruits and fairy floss, a “nourishment spread” with loads of vegan roasted veggies, and roasted eggs in tomato sauce. They also have their liquor licence and serve up fun cocktails.
But now, starting with the upcoming Mother’s Day dinner, they’re aiming to host more specialty dinners. During the summer months, the café runs a tapas bar at night with a very different menu and vibe than the daytime, and they’re hoping to host a monthly themed dinner going forward. This month is of course to celebrate your favourite lady, and June will be something entirely different.
The dinner will start at 6, and Alimentary “thinks Mum would LOVE it.”
