Sitting in the middle of 60 acres of glorious vineyards and rolling pastures you’ll find Alkina, a gorgeous winery, cellar door and cottage.

Located an hour out of Adelaide, Alkina is one to add to the growing list of beautiful Barossa based wineries and cellar doors to discover.

What sets Alkina apart from the rest is their organic and biodynamic certified vineyard that uses regenerative farming techniques.

They have a holistic approach to their wine growing, paying respect to the complex ecosystems of its surrounds.

Alkina seeks to understand, nurture, care for and ultimately express the beautiful land in its wines.

All of the Alkina wines are made on the farm, using hand-picked grapes. Their approach to winemaking is based on identifying, picking and separately vinifying a wide range of micro-terroirs.

Alkina has split its vineyard blocks into tiny, irregular polygon shapes
in areas as small as 200 vines.

The polygons are separated based on their soil and bedrock composition, where the fruit is then picked, vinified and bottled separately.

The small winery has been constructed in a meticulously
renovated old stone barn, where the wines are vinified.

The winery is equipped with tulip-shaped concrete fermenters and clay amphorae from Italy. There is also a Georgian qvevri and small concrete eggs from France to assist in the winemaking process.

“When I first came to Australia I fell in love with the Barossa Valley, its landscape and its food and wine culture. To be able to build such a beautiful and viticulturally important estate over the last 5 years has been a great challenge and a source of immense pride” says owner Alejandro Bulgheron.

“I would also like to express my gratitude to Amelia, our Managing Director, and her team for the hard work and imagination over the past five years.”

Alkina is the first South Australian winery to undertake a detailed micro-terroir study. Chilean terroir specialist, Pedro Parra, has conducted the most in-depth study of its kind in Australia.

Alkina’s Tasting Room will open on October 31 in the old stone woolshed. The Tasting Room will be open from Friday to Monday 11am ’til 5pm, with by appointment bookings available Wednesday to Thursday.
