From the same people who brought you the wine train, SteamRanger Heritage Railway is turning festive with The Southern Lights Special chugging to town this Christmas.
The heritage three-car “Red-Hen” will be decorated head-to-toe in festive get-up, with Christmas lights illuminating every corner.
The Southern Lights Special will be departing Goolwa at 8:15pm on the 21st, 22nd, and 23rd of December, giving South Aussies to live out their Polar Express fantasies.
As you sip on hot cocoa, the Southern Lights Special will chug at a leisurely pace towards Victor Harbor, stopping briefly at Port Elliot. Merry passengers will be able to take photos of the sunset, before arriving at Victors at approximately 8:55pm.
Upon arrival at Victor Harbor, a local band will soundtrack the evening with Christmas carols, extending the festivities even further. Santa will also be making an appearance for the kids, handing out some goodies on the return journey.
The Southern Lights Special will then depart at 9:30pm and run non-stop to Middleton. This stop will give guests an opportunity to take more photos or “hop off” before remaining passengers are returned to Goolwa at around 10:15pm.
The Southern Lights Special is the first of its kind, guaranteeing a magical experience for family, friends, and loved ones.
SteamRanger Heritage Railway operates some of South Australia’s favourite heritage steam and diesel tourist trains from My Barker to the Adelaide Hills.
Coming shortly after the Southern Lights Special is the New Years Eve Special, with details coming out soon.
Responsible for iconic locomotives like The Cockle Train, each SteamRanger heritage train is operated more than 200 days a year, manned by volunteers of the Australian Railway Historical Society.
