Boutique McLaren Vale winery Alpha Box & Dice has reopened their Cellar Door on weekends, with a new premium, seated tasting format. From July, they now also offer a non-alcoholic substitution, presented by Sometimes Always Cellars.
After launching the wine tasting program, that sees four pairings of eight premium sides being tasted side-by-side, the team were committed to introduce a non-alcoholic alternative for those not drinking wine or alcohol, so that everyone could be included in the tasting experience.
Therefore, they have introduced a selection of premium non-alcoholic beverages, presented by Sometimes Always Cellars (sometimesalways.com.au), the new online premium bottle shop that the Alpha Box & Dice team recently launched. While coincidentally launching on the same weekend as Dry July, the team are committed to keeping the non-alcoholic tasting as an ongoing offering.
“The non-alcoholic movement is something that is gaining wider momentum as more people choose to make more health-conscious decisions,” says Alpha Box & Dice and Sometimes Always Director, Dylan Fairweather.
“It’s great to have access to so many exciting producers making incredible drinks that are just as compelling to taste as a premium wine, but without the alcohol. We have so many visitors who can’t participate in a wine tasting, for whatever reason, so we’re very happy to be able to offer them a comparable experience to what everyone else is having.”
The first tasting range available at the AB&D Cellar Door is by the industry leaders, NON, which are a Sydney company with an ex-Noma chef at the helm. The NON products have all the complexity, craftsmanship and flavour profiles of a fine wine, but without the alcohol content. New options will be
introduced monthly, along with a new list of wines.
While the seated tasting program was born out of necessity to be compliant with early COVID-Safe restrictions, Alpha Box & Dice don’t envisage reverting back anytime soon and hope to expand on their experience offering in the future.
“The new tasting program has seen us provide a better visitor experience at our Cellar Door than ever before. It’s something that we have always hoped to accomplish and now it’s up and running, we hope to continue on making ways to expand it,” says Dylan. “We’re working on other experiences to
introduce, such as barrel tasting and winemaker tours, to give an even greater behind-the-scenes look at what we do in McLaren Vale – more on that soon!”
Bookings are suitable for groups 1-6 and booking in advance is recommended as sessions do sell out.
Tastings are $10 per head, with the option to add Cheese Plates or Vegan Misto Plates available.
