For music lovers around Adelaide, major festivals like WOMAD, Laneway, and Harvest Rock offer fans the opportunity to see some of their favourite musicians and bands in the same setting. Festivals like these are major events around the world, but too often, important factors like accessibility and inclusiveness are overlooked.

This means that often, big bill festivals are challenging occasions for people living with physical or intellectual disabilities, as well as their family or carers, who often feel that music festivals are not catered to suit everybody’s needs.

The team behind Amplifii Music Festival has been working hard in the last few years to change that narrative. Launched by music lover, Karren Kelly, along with the loving support of her intellectually disabled and autistic son James, Amplifii is a comprehensively inclusive and accessible music festival returning to Adelaide this February, offering a lively music experience while prioritising comfort, wellbeing, and safety above all.

For one night only, Amplifii is taking over the historic Harts Mill venue in Port Adelaide, transforming the iconic location into a vibrant hub of music, dancing, and sensory-friendly fun. With Adelaide’s hottest DJs and bands lighting up the main stage, alongside a silent disco, and sensory experiences like vibrating vests, Amplifii promises an all-inclusive celebration for music lovers of all kinds.

Event organiser Karren said, “I wanted a way for everyone to come together and celebrate through music in a safe and accessible way.”

Slated to take the stage this time around is party band Mr Buzzy, 9-piece 80s tribute act Pop Inc., drag queens Princess Laya and Fifi LaDouche, DJ JoSH, and global sensation DJ Krunk, with more to be revealed.

“We had such a fun time. The DJs were awesome! And the silent disco with the vibrating vests was a cool experience.” – 2023 attendee

Audience members will have the opportunity to interact with or join the artists on stage, and Auslan interpreters will be on site for those who are hard of hearing. The festival will also feature a carers lounge, sensory friendly spaces, and a Chill Out Zone.

Speaking on the behind the scenes, Karren said, “Our volunteers are there to keep people happy and help people get up and have a dance. No one’s alone, we’re going to get everyone up and dancing and everyone will be happy to be around one another.”

Amplifii is an alcohol free event that cycles all of its profits from ticket sales back into its charitable, not-for-profit core, helping to fund future events.
