Adding yet another accolade to what’s becoming a long list, Jock Zonfrillo’s Restaurant Orana has been named Restaurant of the Year at the Good Food Guide 2019 Awards.
Good Food Guide editor Myffy Rigby said: “Zonfrillo has an ability to take left-field ingredients such as ants and Geraldton wax and turn them into something incredibly delicious.”
“There’s no cultural cringe, just purity and beauty. And, most importantly, Orana is a lot of fun to eat at.”
Restaurant Orana was also awarded three hats, which is the highest ranking you can get. Only seven restaurants nationally achieved the top accolade of three hats, including Attica (Vic), Brae (Vic), Momofuku Seiobo (NSW), Minamishima (Vic), Quay (NSW), and Sixpenny (NSW).
And the rest of South Australia also put on a good display for the year, with the number of hats awarded to local restaurants going up from 13 to 15.
Both Hentley Farm and Magill Estate shone this year, awarded two hats each.
Africola, Appellation, Bistro Blackwood, Botanic Gardens Restaurant, The Currant Shed, d’Arenberg Cube Restaurant, FermentAsian, Osteria Oggi, The Pot by Emma McCaskill, Press Food and Wine, Shobosho, Stone’s Throw, and The Summertown Aristologist were all awarded one hat.
Held on Monday night in Melbourne, the Good Food Guide 2019 Awards were attended by 800 of the restaurant industry’s biggest names.
For the guide, 59 independent reviewers anonymously reviewed 506 restaurants all across the country.
