The ultimate Korean street party, Hongdae in Adelaide, will land in Adelaide’s CBD on Saturday the 7th of September, bringing together the best local Korean performers, entertainment and eats, in a jam-packed day for the whole family – with all profits going to the Women’s and Children’s Foundation.
The free entry-event promises to bring a slice of the vibrant streets of South Korea’s cultural hub, Hongdae – a thriving Seoul neighbourhood, known for its lively arts scene and youthful culture – to Eliza Street.
Prepare for a street party like no other in this collaborative event between an Adelaide Korean Restaurant cohort, Plus 82 Group, with the Adelaide Economic Development Agency (AEDA) and the City of Adelaide.
“Throwing an event of this scale has always been something we have wanted to do, and we saw an opportunity and went for it,” shares Plus 82 Group Director Steven Lee.
“It is going to be focused on local produce and Korean food, offering different Korean products and experiences.
There’ll be heaps to look forward to at this year’s festival, of course, delicious Korean food and drink will be in abundance, but also traditional games, handmade jewellery and stylish gifts.
Korean band, Off Duty, will play all day, with DJs from 7pm to 10pm and performances from dance group KUA – there’s even a Korean language clinic for those wanting to learn a phrase or two!
“We want to make this a festival that happens year after year. It’s our first event of this scale, so if this works we want to keep making it bigger and bigger. Our goal for the future is to draw in big K-pop stars, and really get the people excited about Korean culture,” Steven says.
As for food, visitors will be spoilt for choice. Some menu highlights include Korean Fried Chicken, Tteokbokki, Kimchi Pancakes and so much more from the groups’ various restaurants; Plus 82 Pocha, Plus 82 GoGi, Plus 82 GoGi Goodwood, CnB Chicken and Burger, and Plus 82 lite and a new concept in Norwood called 88 POCHA. Plus, Wagyu Beef from Mayura station, a whole pig spit from Boston Bay Pork, Korean desserts from 3 Labs Bake House, and Korean grocery from Together Mart.
Pirate Life will keep the beer flowing throughout the day while Alpha Box and Dice will provide the wine.
