A local artist has captured the hope and joy that Variety SA provides to the community in this new Richmond mural.

Sam Brooks has completed a commissioned piece for Variety SA, following four weeks of work, with the 8-meter-tall mural of Variety grant recipient, Chloe and her sister Lily, that can be seen as you drive down Richmond Rd.

Sam invited Chloe & Lily to help finish the mural, allowing both girls to paint and leave their mark on the wall.

Chloe is a twelve-year-old twin who was born prematurely and lives with cerebral palsy and epilepsy. She has increased muscle tone which makes movement difficult and causes her pain.

In 2016, Variety SA supported Chloe by funding Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy surgery at St Louis Children’s Hospital in America. This life changing procedure resulted in a permanent reduction in her spasticity which has enabled her to live free of pain.

Variety SA’s have been empowering South Australian Children who are sick, disadvantaged, or have special needs, to live, laugh and learn.

The image of Chloe and Lily was chosen to represent the hope and joy that Variety shares through the grant program.

“The work is a wonderful billboard for what Variety means to so many children and families across SA – Hope and Joy”, says CEO Mark McGill.

Artist Sam Brooks says the mural signifies the incredible work of Variety SA, “they improve children’s lives, and provide a quality of life that they may not otherwise experience. Variety gives kids hope and that’s what I wanted to capture”.

In the last year, Variety South Australia directly impacted more than 24,000 kids, providing a total of 183 grants worth close to $2.5mill in total.

Their financial support assists individual children and their families, as well as schools, hospitals and other children’s charities, making it the leading children’s charity in the state.
