An Unexpected Variety Show – 2012 Adelaide Fringe

Comedienne's "unexpected" car crash leads to the USA, awards and…Adelaide Fringe!

The irony of being wiped out in a head on collision only weeks before her show about “the unexpected” was to debut at Melbourne International Comedy Festival is not lost on comedienne Jenny Wynter. Sidelined from performing for months, to recover from the horrific accident, Jenny fell into “a very deep and dark place. I thought my career was over, my body had permanently changed. It certainly put stage fright into context!”

Nearly two years later and Wynter has had the privilege of working with some of the USA's comedy greats, has won the Award for Excellence Cabaret at Melbourne Fringe Festival and is set to tour her musical comedy cabaret, “An Unexpected Variety Show”, around Australia and beyond in 2012.

The tour kicks off at Adelaide Fringe on February 25th and, this time, Jenny says it will take nothing less than “wild horses, a Norwegian strong man and/or the Apocalypse” to keep her away!

The comedienne fuses stand-up, storytelling, song, improvisation, and character comedy in this unique variety show about the unexpected twists in life, from dealing with an unplanned pregnancy, to finding oneself in the mountains of Canada, to having one's wedding disrupted by an 80-year-old man wearing nothing but a pair of speedos. The show has been described as “hilarious”, “moving” and “charming."

The first two shows on Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th February are free, however tickets are only available for those shows at the door, so you must get there early. It's first in best dressed!

Interesting facts about “The Unexpected Variety Show":

The show was developed during a residency at the world-renowned Banff Centre for the Arts, Canada.

LA's comedy guru Gary Austin, who launched the famous Groundlings Comedy Theatre and whom Helen Hunt thanked in her Oscar speech, directed it.

Jenny wrote much of it while pregnant with her third child.

What other people are saying about the show:
