Anchors Aweigh: Popular Hole In The Wall Coffee Joint Expands Beachside

Branching out from their success in the CBD, this creative team are opening a new fully-licensed café by the beach.

If you haven’t heard of the cute (literal) hole-in-the-wall coffee shop Seafaring Fool on Grenfell Street, you’re missing out. Chances are though, you’ve walked or driven past it at some point or another. Operating out of JR’s Surf & Ski, this coffee bar never ceases to draw the crowds and for good reason.

Now business partners Alistair Corston, Joel Materne and Head Chef Ben Nash, are expanding and opening their first cafe together and it sounds dope. Taking over the old newsagency on The Broadway at Glenelg, Seafairing Fools, will be a fully licensed breakfast/lunch joint equipped with ample indoor and outdoor seating to service y’all. The cafe will also be super dog-friendly and cater for cyclists with bike racks.

Their ethos is simple. It’s all about fresh, South Australian produce and keeping the cafe as environmentally-friendly as possible. From bio-degradable takeaway cups and bin liners to discount for legends who bring in their keep cup, they’re on a mission to reduce waste.

“We’re all surfers and sea fairers and we’re at a stage in our lives now where we can make a difference, so why not”, says Corston.

In terms of food and drink, you can expect everything to be sourced locally. This includes coffee gurus De Groot Coffee Co. who will be joining them down beachside as well. If you’ve tried their coffee in the city, you’ll understand. Seafairing Fools menu promises some pretty sweet offerings thanks to Head Chef Ben Nash (previously Borsa) who will be making absolutely everything from scratch, right down to the bread. Legit. The guys aren’t even installing a microwave – it’s fresh til’ death baby. So get ready for the gourmet brunch fare mixed in with some awesome burgers, ruebens and slow cooked meats.

Come mid-August you’ll also be able to enjoy some awesome local wines and South Aussie craft beers. On the wine front you’ve got Dandelion Vineyards, O’Leary Walker Wines and Dunes & Greene or knock back some favourite brews by Pirate Life, Mismatch and Prancing Pony.

Overall. Seafairing Fools sounds like an awesome joint to kick back at and soak up the fresh air. They’re officially opening on Saturday 29 July.
