From March 10 – 13, just under 90,000 local, interstate and international guests experienced the sights, sounds and wonders of WOMADelaide’s 25th Anniversary.
Boasting a lineup of more than 400 artists from 30 different countries, WOMADelaide 2017 was truly an international degustation of music, arts and dance from every corner of the globe. Highlights from the festival weekend included Mali’s Inna Modja who wowed audiences with songs of social power entwined within desert electro hip-hop, the joyous Manganiyar Classroom stole the hearts of the crowd, and on Sunday The Phillip Glass Ensemble played to a capacity crowd with the mesmerising live score accompanying the  screening of Godfrey Reggio’s “environmental masterpiece”, KOYAANISQATSI, while Austria’s electro-swing masterminds Parov Stelar, had the crowds dancing late into the night.
WOMADelaide Director Ian Scobie said that he was delighted with the response to this special program marking the events 25th anniversary.
“It has been a tremendous celebration for our 25th anniversary, a fantastic program which was embraced by a wonderfully receptive and appreciative WOMADelaide audience,” said Mr Scobie
“This years line-up encapsulated the extraordinary diversity of WOMADelaide’s 25 year history, from the astounding new dance piece ‘Attractor’ from Dancenorth and Lucy Guerin, the immersive and powerful fire installation from France’s Carabosse’, the unforgettable return from one of WOMADelaide’s favorite Australian performers in Archie Roach who performed at the very first WOMADelaide in 1992, and the big hitting sound of the UK’s The Specials who closed the   Foundation Stage on the final evening of the event; the program truly  celebrated our 25 year milestone.”
WOMADelaide 2018 will be celebrated from the 9-12 March, Botanic Park, Adelaide, South Australia.
