ANZ Championship Announces 2012 Team Lists

Following a busy period of re-signings, new player signings and retirements, the ANZ Championship is pleased to announce final squads of 12 for the 2012 season.

In possibly the busiest off-season in the competition’s five year history, there have been 43 changes to team lists, representing just over one third of the 120 contracted athletes.

The Southern Steel and West Coast Fever have made the most changes to their line-ups, while reigning champions the Queensland Firebirds, together with the Melbourne Vixens, have only made two changes to their squads for 2012:

8 changes – Southern Steel
6 changes – West Coast Fever
5 changes – NSW Swifts, Central Pulse, Canterbury Tactix
4 changes – Waikato/Bay of Plenty Magic
3 changes – Adelaide Thunderbirds, Northern Mystics
2 changes – Melbourne Vixens, Queensland Firebirds

In total, 16 athletes are moving between teams; every team has exercised its right to contract an international athlete; and, after receiving approval to contract a second ineligible athlete for 2012, the Canterbury Tactix have contracted two UK representatives (Jo Harten and Stacey Francis).

In addition to the record player movement, five of the competition’s 10 teams will have new coaches in 2012.
