Gin tastings, produce platters, and orchard tours in the scenic Adelaide Hills are all being brought together this Spring as Applewood and @Lenswood join together for a unique day out.
This September will see Applewood Distillery and @Lenswood Pick Your Own host a unique distillery and orchard experience for four weekends beginning late this September. Each four-hour tour will offer up a behind the scenes look into the two locations in Lenswood and Gumeracha. The day will be packed with beautiful complementary pairings of the very best produce and gin to come out of the hills.
The two Adelaide Hills icons are coming together for a captivating day of indulgence. You can expect a jam-packed day of eating, drinking and exploration. The tour will begin at @Lenswood’s 23-acre apple orchard, with a fascinating look behind the curtains at commercial fruit production and farming. Grab a freshly brewed coffee as you explore, with @Lenswood giving you some handy tips on growing and hand-pruning your own fruit trees. You’ll then take home two kilos of fresh juicy hand picked apples and a voucher for the upcoming pick-your-own season.
Orchard Exploration:
- Fruit Tree Grafting Tips: Discover the art and science of fruit tree grafting with hands-on demonstrations that you can use at home on your own fruit trees.
- Farm Machinery: See modern farm machinery in action and learn how it supports apple production. Also learn about how tractors and machinery has changed over time.
- Apple Growing Insights: Gain a deeper understanding of apple cultivation in the Adelaide Hills, from planting to harvest and bud to apple.
- Commercial Fruit Production: Get exclusive insights into the commercial aspects of fruit production.
- Pruning Demonstration: Understand how apple trees are pruned all by hand! Learn some tips that you can use on your own fruit trees at home.
For the second half the day, head over to the Applewood Distillery in Gumeracha for an in-depth distillery tour of one of Adelaide’s most innovative spirit makers. Relax and savour a flight of in-house gin tastings, followed by a specialty cocktail. To pull it all together enjoy a delicious locally sourced produce platter showcasing the finest ingredients from the Adelaide Hills.

Husband and wife, Chris and Emily Shipway made a dramatic left turn in 2021 moving from the suburbs to the hills and diving right into South Australia’s rich agriculture industry to start apple orchard and family business, @Lenswood. The registered intensive care nurses haven’t looked back since, harvesting one of Adelaide’s most beloved apple picking destinations. The duo and their family now host yearly seasonal pick-your-own experiences and numerous events utilising their scenic 23 acre space. Spring will also see @Lenswood host orchard photography sessions with photographer JoJo.
