Applications for $5 million On-Farm Drought Infrastructure grants now open

Applications are now open for the South Australian Government’s $5 million On-Farm Drought Infrastructure Rebate Scheme to help support farmers facing severe drought conditions across the state. The scheme is part of a broader $18 million package designed to assist farming communities impacted by the ongoing dry conditions.

Primary producers can apply for rebates to help fund infrastructure projects that will improve drought preparedness and manage current conditions. Eligible projects include water infrastructure upgrades, stock containment areas, grain and fodder storage, and the installation of soil moisture monitors and weather stations. Successful applicants can receive a rebate of up to 75% of the cost of the project, to a maximum of $5,000 (excluding GST).

The rebate scheme was developed based on input from drought roundtables held across the state and advice from the SA Drought Advisory Group, which includes representatives from key primary industry groups, as well as state, federal, and local governments.

“Upgrading on-farm infrastructure and building on existing planning to identify opportunities for improvement will go a long way to ensuring we are in a stronger position to tackle drought and the associated challenges,” Clare Scriven MLC, Minister for Primary Industries and Regional Development, said.

“Equipping communities to also continue fostering community cohesion is also an important part of supporting our farmers and regional towns.”

As well as the On-Farm Infrastructure Rebate Scheme, the package includes the Connecting Communities Grants. These grants, of up to $5,000 (GST exclusive), are available to industry, community, not-for-profit, local government, and incorporated groups. The funds can be used to host events that promote social connections and provide support during these tough times.
