Art is not a crime in CIBO Galleria’s Verde People’s Choice

A fairytale depiction of the female form has earned Adelaide artist Emilia Bellifemine first place in CIBO Galleria’s spring art exhibition Verde.

Bellifemine’s mixed mode canvas piece featuring watercolour, spray paint and lace, titled ‘Art is Not a Crime’, was voted Verde’s best piece by CIBO Espresso customers and Galleria fans.More than 1500 online votes were cast in the CIBO Galleria Verde People’s Choice Awards, with Joshua Miel’s ‘Bless with Lucky Sevens’ voted second and Tiffany Rysdale’s ‘Teacup Bunny’ achieving third place.

Verde featured more than 100 pieces by 16 local artists, on show in ten CIBO Espresso bars across Adelaide. The Verde winners each receive $1000 towards their professional development and are now in the running for the grand prize of $10,000 and the chance to display their artwork on CIBO Espresso’s iconic red takeaway coffee cups.

One lucky Verde fan, Emma Stokes, has also won 365 free CIBO coffees simply for voting for her favourite work.

The Verde exhibition was the final in the CIBO Galleria series, which kicked off last February and saw four exhibitions run across the year, each aptly named after colours that reflect Australia’s seasons – Giallo (Yellow) Arancio (Orange) Nero (Black) and Verde (Green). CIBO Espresso Director Roberto Cardone says the next step is the intricate task of selecting an overall winner from the 12 People’s Choice Award exhibition winners. “We have recruited some industry professionals to help decide the overall CIBO Galleria series winner,” said Roberto.

“CIBO customers and Galleria fans have selected 12 pieces of an exceptional quality, across a diverse range of mediums; it is going to be a difficult task to pick one overall winner,” he said. “Regardless of the outcome, the CIBO Galleria series has highlighted the immense talent we have in South Australia and has given more than 75 local artists the opportunity to showcase their work.”

The winner of the CIBO Galleria grand prize is to be announced in March.
