ArtWine Estate owners Judy and Glen Kelly have just absolutely smashed the competition at this year’s Clare Valley Wine Show taking home a staggering six trophies from the event last Friday. ArtWine has vineyards in Clare Valley, where their wine journey all began, so it’s a particularly sentimental victory for the pair. The trophy’s will reside in at their vineyard in the Adelaide Hills though, taking pride of place on an already quite full set of shelves at their Cellar Door.
But what won you ask? Well, it was for a number of alternative grape varieties grown, which is the passion and focus of ArtWine. “Winning five Gold Medals for Riesling, Fiano, Rose, Montepulciano and Shiraz that evolved into six Trophies was the most amazing day of our lives”, says Judy.
“This is a major win for us but also it proves that alternative varieties grow so well in this region”, Judy explained.
The Trophies were awarded for (here’s your shopping list):
- Best Dry White other than Riesling – Wicked Stepmother Fiano 2016
- Best Rosé of Show – Temptress Rosé 2016
- Best Vintage Section Dry Red Blends and other varieties – Leave Your Hat on Montepulciano 2015
- Best Dry Red of Show – Leave Your Hat on Montepulciano 2015
- Best Small Producer
- Best Exhibitor of Show
The other alternative varieties Artwine produce are an estate-grown Prosecco, Fiano, Viognier, Pinot Gris, Tempranillo, Graciano. Montepulciano, Cabernet Franc, Gruner Veltliner and coming soon will be Albarino. Traditional varieties are Pinot Noir, Merlot, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Riesling.
