Aussie icons Killing Heidi ready to rock The District at SkyCity Adelaide

The District at SkyCity is excited to announce that Killing Heidi is ready to rock the tailor-made live music venue on Wednesday, July 7.

Twenty years ago, Ella and Jesse Hooper were launched into high radio rotation and the success of their band, Killing Heidi, was something neither of them expected. Since then, they’ve morphed from explosive power pop into Oz rock pantheon.

Some of their first hits, Weir and Mascara, were No. 2 and No. 14 in Triple J’s Hottest 100 and their debut album, Reflector, won four major ARIA awards and sold 4 times platinum as Ella and Jesse took out the prestigious APRA Songwriters of the Year award in 2001.

After a fruitful decade of diverse solo and duo pursuits, five years ago the pair reignited the flame for the 20th anniversary of Queenscliff Music Festival; a perfect reflection of their first teenage performances under the Killing Heidi banner.

Blown away by the warm welcome and electric energy of a capacity crowd, they went on to meet snowballing demand with a series of sold out concerts.

Summer 2020 saw Killing Heidi return for a monster 23 dates across every state and territory of Australia as part of the epic Red Hot Summer Tour, with fellow Australian rock giants Hunters & Collectors, James Reyne, The Living End, The Angels, Baby Animals and Boom Crash Opera.

Ella said: “What Killing Heidi’s music meant and still means to people really blows me away. I meet so many people, especially young women, who tell me how Killing Heidi inspired them to be themselves, back themselves or even start a band, and I’m completely honoured that it had that effect on people.”

Jesse said: “We can’t wait to get back to SA – it’s been a long time between drinks. We have a set of all the hits and we’re ready to go all in with this gig at SkyCity”

Killing Heidi will follow in the footsteps of The Superjesus, whoplayed to a sell-out audience in the first ticketed event at The District in April.

Superjesus lead singer, Sarah McLeod, spoke of her first experience playing at the venue: “What a killer venue The District is! A great room with a second platform above that makes you feel like you’re in an ACDC video clip. The sound in there is amazing, it’s pounding! I’d play there again in a heartbeat!”

The District at SkyCity, Australia’s first brewery within a casino, officially opened to the public late last year.

The District venue manager, Jarrad Anderson said: “The energy in The District at our first ticketed show with The Superjesus was inane, and we can’t wait to welcome Killing Heidi for another incredible gig.

“The stress over the past year for people in the entertainment industry who rely on live events has been worrying, but we are stoked to see them return. We host local live acts at The District multiple times each week, and supporting Australian performers and even more broadly, music-industry workers, is really important to us.”

The District is a dedicated live entertainment space on Level 1 in the original SkyCity building and it has been a key pillar of SkyCity’s $330 million transformation into a world class integrated casino and entertainment precinct.

Australian rock legends Killing Heidi are heading to The District at SkyCity Adelaide for one night only!

The District at SkyCity brings together all venues on Level 1; live entertainment, a Pirate Life brewery, the Sports Bar, Poker Zone and Eats, in one unique offering that also includes a mezzanine level, allowing increased capacity for live entertainment, where customers can enjoy Pirate Life beers tailor made for The District.
