Aussie pop-rock group Lime Cordiale launch climate-positive ‘Lime Green’ festival in Adelaide this autumn

Lime Cordiale are bringing their brand-new off-grid Lime Green Festival to Adelaide this April, blending big Aussie acts with bold ideas for a more sustainable future of live music.

Aussie pop-rock favourites, Lime Cordiale, are heading to Adelaide in the autumn, putting a forward-thinking, new music festival on the map.

The brand-new, climate-focused, off-grid Lime Green Festival will hit Point Malcolm Reserve on April 18th, bringing a bunch of musicians you know and love, with big-picture ideas about how festivals can tread lighter on the planet.

For brothers and founding members of Lime Cordiale, Oli and Louis Leimbach, the idea behind Lime Green Festival has been brewing in the background for years. The Lime Cordiale duo say they’re just as passionate about the environment as they are about music and Lime Green is their answer to a question many artists are grappling with, “how live events can operate in a more regenerative way?”

Created in partnership with Chugg Music, Lime Green Festival is designed as a 100 per cent off-grid event. They’ve incorporated renewable stage power and low-emission transport, as well as waste reduction and regenerative food systems, with every detail carefully considered to reduce impact while still delivering a high-energy, high-quality festival experience.

“From the accelerating loss of polar ice to the devastating algal blooms currently choking the South Australian coast, it is impossible to ignore that our climate is at a breaking point,” shared Oli and Louis. “For the last five years, we’ve wrestled with a deep, personal dilemma as environmentalists: Is our touring contributing to the problem? Does it still make sense in a world that’s hurting? Should we continue to tour at all?

“We’ve decided that the answer isn’t to stop, but to change. Live music is about the vital connection between people, and we believe that connection is exactly what we need to fuel a new way of doing things.”

Not just a music festival, Lime Green is also a space for the community to come together. Joining the live music will be talks, workshops and activations that highlight the work of innovators, creatives and leaders from Australia’s growing regenerative movement.

The music lineup is, of course, stacked with Australian favourites and rising talent. Lime Cordiale will headline, joined by indie-folk favourites The Dreggs, Adelaide pop star aleksiah, local four-piece PASH, and the yet-to-be-announced triple j Unearthed winner.

The festival is experimenting, hoping to power the main stage, and potentially the entire site, off-grid through a partnership with Aggreko. This will be done through the use of industrial-scale batteries supported by vegetable-oil generators. They will also be eliminating single-use plastics and prioritising solar and bike-powered phone charging, upcycled and seaweed-based merch, and incentives to arrive via low-emission transport.

Food and drink offerings have also been curated to feature local, organic and carbon-neutral vendors, with free drinking water available on site and leftover food donated to charity wherever possible. The festival will also raise funds for climate and nature-based initiatives through the Solar Slice program, with $1 from every ticket supporting a South Australian community-led response to the ongoing algal bloom affecting the state’s coastline.

Minister for Tourism Zoe Bettison shared, “The environmental initiative Lime Cordiale has shown is a significant step forward for the arts industry and our planet. It is not just a coincidence that these innovative musicians have chosen South Australia to test out this bold experiment, with the Lime Green Festival adding to a long list of climate action initiatives our Government has supported. This is also music to the ears of communities and businesses previously impacted by the algal bloom, as the Lime Green Festival will attract music-lovers down to our coast and raise important dollars for response programs.”

Lime Green Festival is a bold experiment, but one embedded with optimism. “This is a genuine attempt to discover what is possible. We aren’t claiming to be perfect; we will make mistakes along the way, but we are trying. We’re inviting you to be part of this experiment. Come and hear some incredible Aussie music, but also come to see what a different future looks like. Let’s find out what we can achieve, together,” said Oli and Louis.
