Adelaide City Council is getting involved in supporting Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea and welcomes the community to stop by for a cuppa and a yarn on Thursday May 24.
The outdoor plaza in front of Council’s Customer Centre will be buzzing from 8 am, with staff and city commuters enjoying a beverage from mobile coffee vendor Little Seeds Organic Coffee and an exquisite cupcake from BTS Café.
“Events like this are all about rallying the community, having fun and raising money for a worthy cause,” Lord Mayor and Cancer Council SA Ambassador Stephen Yarwood said.
Stephen decided to become a Cancer Council Ambassador after losing his father to prostate cancer.
“Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea is about encouraging others to talk about preventative measures, like regular check-ups with their doctor, and making healthy lifestyle changes to reduce the risk of developing cancer.”
Cancer Council SA chief executive professor Brenda Wilson said with around 25 South Australians diagnosed with cancer each day, every cup counts in funding Cancer Council SA’s cancer research, prevention and support initiatives.
“Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea is our most popular fundraising event that brings together thousands of South Australians each year.
“We are delighted to see Adelaide City Council get on board and look forward to working with Lord Mayor Stephen Yarwood, our newest Cancer Council SA Ambassador,” Ms Wilson said.
Local internet music station SoundPond will be playing from 8 am, with Burger Theory driving their mobile kitchen in at 11 am to cater for the early lunch time trade.
There will be opportunities to donate to cancer research on the day, at the Biggest Morning Tea collection box.
