Mourning in the Morning – Smoking Ceremony

Gather in the early morning on the 26 January for a Smoking Ceremony at Tarntanya Wama (Elder Park). This profound ceremony shaped by First Nations leaders is a time for truth telling of our history and provides a genuine opportunity for reconciliation.
This one-hour event welcomes all to listen, learn and pay respects with a Welcome to Country, a smoking ceremony, a speaker’s address, and beautiful performances by the Iwiri Choir and Nancy Bates.

Aus Lights on the River FIREWORKS

The captivating colours, rhythms and seasons of Adelaide’s expansive landscape will be expressed through a piece of original synchronized music, moving images and fireworks composition created especially for Aus Lights on the River 2023. This ten-minute display expresses the diversity of nature, culture, and the impressive and inspirational visual themes of our country, places and people who call it home.
The display brings together the talents of Howard and Sons, Illuminart – stories in light, composer Pete Ardron and vocalist Samantha Ray, to build a piece that expresses and reflects our precious and unique corner of Australia.

AusFeast serves up Adelaide party bands in Oakden on Oz Day

AusFeast is back on Thursday, January 26 with a line-up of five of Adelaide’s favourite party bands at B Social in Oakden.
Set to take to the stage are Mr Buzzy, Chevy Tones, the New Romantics, Sound Factory and The Incredibles for eight hours of entertainment.
B Social will be offering an a la carte lunch menu on the day with pizzas, pasta, burgers and wedges on offer plus a traditional Australia Day sausage sizzle.

Playford Aquadome to throw free splash party

Whether you’re a visitor or a local, everyone is welcome to experience family water fun at the Playford Aquadome’s FREE Community Open Day on Thursday 26th January. From 11.30am to 1.30pm free entry will be offered to all with access to both aquatics and health club facilities.
Visitors will be able to dive into the upgraded facilities with little and big water babies set to slip n’ slide on the long indoor water slide as well as splash away in the indoor 25m leisure pool with beach style entry and the 50m indoor pool is open for lap lovers.
Plenty of activities are also planned including jumping castle, entertainment, games as well as spot prizes on the day. There is lots of seating, grassed and shaded areas, the facility is also wheelchair accessible and offers change room facilities.

A great Australia Day tradition throughout the country is free breakfast – and Adelaide has quite a few locations ready to whip up a bacon and egg roll or fruit and yoghurt for you, followed by the flag raising ceremony, Australia Day ceremony and citizenship ceremony. If you’re located near Adelaide CBD, Tanunda Show Hall is your closest location but there are many across the state.

Respecting Country Parade

This year’s Respecting Country Parade will see many multicultural and community groups unite under a rainbow of colour for Aus Lights on the River and Australia Day.
The travelling trail of bright festivities will begin at 6pm on January 26, as the parade makes its way from King William Street near Adelaide Oval to Elder Park, as part of the events and activities program.
Hundreds of people will participate dressed in traditional costume for the parade as it makes its return to the CBD since COVID and will be broadcast live onto screens for those at Elder Park.
In a first for the parade, it will begin with a Greeting to Spirit of Place led by Kaurna artist, Karl Telfer, who will bring all parade participants together to pay respect to country.
