Australian Hardcourt Tennis Championships coming to Adelaide this week

This will mark the first time South Australia has hosted the 12/u and 14/u Australian Hardcourt Championships in more than 20 years.

Australia’s top junior tennis players will take part in the 2022 12/u and 14/u Australian Hardcourt Championships presented by Kia in Adelaide this week, with action on court from Monday 26 September to Sunday 2 October.

A total of 190 junior players will take to the courts at West Lakes Tennis Club and Woodville Orion Tennis Club, competing for the 12-and-under and 14-and-under national titles.

South Australia is set to field an impressive list of participants in the event, with 13 players accepted directly in to their respective main draws and an additional four players to join the lists as qualifiers.

The local contingent will be led by Billy Williams who will be the top seed in the 14-and-under boys. Diana Badalyan will lead the 14-and-under girls, with Ashton Lim and Hannah Park to lead South Australia in the 12-and-under competition.

Tennis SA CEO Debbie Sterrey is looking forward to welcoming the players to Adelaide.

“After hosting the Grasscourt edition of these championships in 2016, 2017 and 2018, this will mark the first time South Australia has hosted the 12/u and 14/u Australian Hardcourt Championships in over 20 years,” Sterrey said.

“South Australia has a proud history of national champions, with the likes of Charlotte Kempenaers-Pocz, Edward Winter, Edward Vo, Alexander Despoja and Michael Smith all winning national championships in recent years.

“Ash Barty, Nick Kyrgios and Alex de Minaur have also won national titles as juniors, showing how important these events are for our up-and-coming juniors around Australia.

“We are excited to welcome the players and their families to Adelaide this week.”

The championships form a part of the Australian Junior Championships presented by Kia taking place over the coming months with December Showdown Masters to be held in Melbourne, followed by the Grasscourt Championships in Wodonga in January 2023.
