Australian of the Year Taryn Brumfitt receives prestigious White House invitation

Australian of the Year and body image advocate Taryn Brumfitt has received an invitation to dinner at The White House in the United States.

Adelaide’s very own Taryn Brumfitt, the 2023 Australian of the Year and a leading advocate for positive body image, has received a prestigious invitation to the White House.

The invitation comes from none other than the President of the United States, Joe Biden, and First Lady Dr. Jill Biden, who have extended this honour to Taryn Brumfitt and her colleague, Dr. Zali Yager.

The invitation is for a dinner at The White House in honour of Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, scheduled for later this month.

“If you know me at all you’ll know that when opportunity knocks, I’m always standing right behind the door ready to answer,” Taryn says.

She acknowledges the profound impact that a single meeting or conversation can have on shaping one’s trajectory and the world itself.

Taryn’s work as a global body image expert has earned her this incredible opportunity to network with other experts and take her message to an international stage.

She mentioned that the world feels different now than when she first received the invitation, but she believes there is no better time to influence outcomes in the country that has a significant impact on global body image culture and narrative.

Taryn and Dr. Zali Yager plan to use this visit as a springboard to take the Embrace Kids message around the globe.

The Embrace Impact Lab, a pioneering research initiative, aims to assist young Australians and their families in addressing body image concerns. This initiative aligns perfectly with the mission to promote body positivity and self-acceptance.

“This will be a whirlwind tour, squeezed firmly between a week of no less than 6 domestic flights, a charity lunch and a movie premiere this side, and the official launch of our first major program for young Australians on the other side,” Taryn says.

Taryn Brumfitt, renowned as the founder of The Body Movement, has been at the forefront of the body positivity movement.

She believes that everyone has the right to love and celebrate their body, regardless of shape, size, ethnicity, or ability. Over the past decade, Taryn has empowered people worldwide through award-winning films, bestselling books, and international speaking engagements.

Her first film, “Embrace,” became one of the most successful documentaries in Australian history and has had a profound impact on individuals worldwide.

In the space of five days Taryn will be in NYC, at Harvard, the US Embassy, and the White House to name a few.
