In an exciting partnership, Australian Pork has joined forces with Africola Canteen to hero the local innovators creating some of the most delectable charcuterie products.

Africola Canteen’s Duncan Welgemoed and Joel Tisato have teamed up with Australian Pork to create two delectable lunchtime saviours that are sure to blow your mind.

Guests can look forward to the tantalizing flavours of fresh Focaccia with Mortadella, sweet fermented radicchio, chilli and stracciatella as well as a hot option of Piadina with Chorizo, Jamon, braised chickpeas, fermented red pepper hummus and kale.

“At Africola canteen, we pride ourselves on using Australia’s very best ingredients, this country produces some of the world’s best pork and in particular, smallgoods. Therefore the best way to showcase these marvellous ingredients is front and centre in our sandwiches,” said Duncan Welgemoed and Joel Tisato.

Did you know that while all fresh pork sourced and sold in Australia is grown locally, the majority of ham, bacon and small goods products are made from imported pork? Ultimately, this can lead to confusion on where the pork used is coming from and has a flow-on impact on our local industry.

Recent research shows a strong willingness both nationally, and locally by South Australian shoppers to seek out quality Australian products, made with Australian ingredients.

To help shoppers, Australian Pork is launching a new campaign to encourage South Australians to ‘Just Pick Pink’ for true Australian quality, the aim is to share knowledge so shoppers can make informed decisions at the checkout or deli counter.

Looking for the Australian Pork pink logo on packs of ham, bacon and small goods guarantees that you are buying a product made from Aussie-grown pork. Checking for that familiar Australian-made triangle kangaroo just doesn’t do the job, and shoppers need to see that the bar chart is at least 90% full.

Pork farmers in Australia are a progressive group and have voluntarily strived for innovation in their industry. Over 90% of the Australian pig herd adheres to a strict quality program that stands as a mark for pork farmers who care for their animals and follow safe, sustainable practices. This program assures Australians that the product is ethically produced, and Australian grown-pork travels less distance to reach shoppers than it’s imported counterpart.

Both items will be available for one week, starting Monday April 17 for customers to taste the flavour difference of Aussie-grown pork.
