Authentic Italian restaurant Paladino’s Cucina has opened in Mile End

Set to open on Wednesday September 29, Paladino’s Cucina is bringing traditional Calabrian cuisine to the Henley Beach Road.

Paladino’s Cucina is bringing traditional Calabrian cuisine to Henley Beach Road. In the former Tongue Thai’D venue, the new restaurant welcomes customers into their Calabrian family.

Set to open on Wednesday, September 29, their dishes are based on meals you’d expect to find in Nonna’s kitchen with recipes passed down from owner Joe Paladino’s mother Caterina.

“I’ve been in hospitality for a long time and always had a passion for cooking,” Joe said.

“I’d had a break for a while but got the itch again so said let’s just do it.”

With experience in a number of Italian restaurants around town from making pizzas in Scoozi Café on Rundle Street to Amici Pizza Café in Grange, Joe decided to bite the bullet and start a restaurant of his own.

The menu will be filled with antipasto and traditional dishes all sourced from local ingredients and from local businesses.

Visitors can expect classic homestyle pasta dishes including linguine granchio which is spaghetti crab, pasta e Fagioli which has beans, and pasta with broccoli.

There will also be an “old kitchen” section including tripe, chicken liver and giblets.

The drinks list will include an extensive selection of Italian wines as well as Italian beer, and of course coffee for after dinner.

Walking into the black and white rustic venue, visitors are welcomed into Joe’s Italian family. The classic interior spotlights the full-length wall graphic of the gorgeous Calabrian town of Scilla to bring Italy to Adelaide.

“What we are trying to achieve here is a family culture,” Joe says.

“I want people to have a bond with the staff and restaurant.”

“I can guarantee the food is exceptional because it’s made with love.”

The venue has a number of separate rooms, each named after a little village from Calabria, with a private function room available for hire too.

Groups of six or more will be served a set adjustable menu “Nonna’s Tavola’ where Paladino’s Cucina will plate up a selection of the best dishes to enjoy.

“We are trying to achieve a family-orientated restaurant so everyone can come and enjoy.”

“A lot of people don’t get to eat this food anymore as we get older and we want to change that.”

Paladino’s Cucina will open on Wednesday September 29 and is located on 54 Henley Beach Rd, Mile End.

Their opening hours will be Wednesday 5pm-late, Thursday and Friday 11am-2:30pm and 5pm-late, Saturday 5pm-late and Sunday 11am-late.
