City of Unley’s inaugural Spring Fling Picnic to go ahead this weekend

The family friendly event promises an array of market stalls, gardening workshops, kid’s activities, and live music performances on 20 November.

The City of Unley is celebrating Spring by inviting South Aussies to its first ever Unley Spring Fling Community Picnic on Sunday 20 November. The family friendly event promises an array of market stalls, gardening workshops, kid’s activities, face painting, and a live music entertainment program. Basically, just a whole lot of free fun for the family.

What was initially going to be hosted at the Soldiers’ Memorial Gardens is being “re-potted” across the road to the Town Hall and Library, due to rain and high winds forecasted over the weekend.

But never fear! The modified event promises to be the perfect way to spend a Sunday afternoon, despite the everchanging weather, catering to green thumbs and non-green thumbs alike.

The free community event will feature interactive gardening workshops, with horticultural experts on hand to provide tips. Made possible through the support and coordination of Grow Grow Grow Your Own, guests can learn how to grow food in small garden, how to care for fruit trees, as well as how to bring good bugs into your garden. There will also be an Unley Spring Fling Gardening Competition, with winner announced on the day.

Beyond gardening, there will be market stalls bringing colour and spring vibes to what would otherwise be a rainy Sunday, as well as nature crafts and giant games for the kids. Just some of the stalls featured on the day include Creative Soul Prints, Design By Thea, Elli Creates, Magnolia Birdhouses, and more.

Alongside stalls, workshops and music, there will also be delicious food trucks providing a range of tasty treats to indulge in. Come along on Sunday 20 November between 10am and 4pm to experience it all!

Homegrown musical sensation, Germein, was going to headline the live performance aspect of the day, but unfortunately have been rescheduled due to weather and capacity of the Town Hall.

Germein will be headlining another City of Unley event next year, giving us all something to look forward to.

Germein, formerly known as the Germein Sisters, is an award-winning Adelaide pop group that has supported the likes of Little Mix and the legendary Sir Tom Jones. They were also the recipients of the 2019 & 2020 People’s Choice Pop Award at the South Australian Music Awards.

Where: Soldiers Memorial Gardens, Unley Road & Thomas Street, Unley SA 5061.
