The summer season is now over. I know, we’re sorry to have to say it. And autumn giving us that 50/50 weather where you never know if it’s going to be hot or cold, we at Glam have got one things on our minds. Travel.

Glam sat down recently with Kylie, a travel designer from the multi-award winning South Australian travel company The Tailor.

If you don’t own a private jet and zip it over to Paris for your evening meal you may not know of this premium travel company. Their clientele spans from world-wide celebrities, to CEO’s of multimillion dollar companies, and busy couples and families who are are looking for the utmost luxury and convenience, all at the highest discretion of course.

The Tailor specialises in delivering the impossible. They create breathtaking and mind blowing journeys for the people who’s day to day life is stuff  many only dream of. Their little black book (as they call it) of industry contacts helps them deliver these impossibilities and has been built up over many years of hard work and experience.

With 16 years of experience in the travel industry under her belt, Kylie has seen it all and let us tell you, Glam was green with envy at some of her stories. We talked about exploring the highlights of our beautiful country in luxury style and the benefits of using such a high esteemed company.

How long have you worked in the travel industry and for The Tailor itself?

For The Tailor it will be ten years this year and prior to that six years working for regional airlines within South Australia.

What makes you passionate about the travel industry?

I love having the opportunity to plan the holidays for couples and families that they have always dreamed of. It’s really rewarding to take people to places they didn’t know existed because we know it’ll be a perfect match for them.  The families that we typically work with often have busy home lives; it’s nice knowing that you’re bringing them together to have some quality time away from their super hectic lives back home.Helicopter over ocean 300x300

The Tailor is a multi-award winning company, including being rated as one of ‘The Best Travel Companies On Earth’ and named ‘Best Travel Company In Australia’ by National Geographic USA. What do you think makes The Tailor so different from other travel companies?

We’re different because of the depth of knowledge within the office and the high level of expertise that everyone has; that alone ensures that each journey exceeds the client’s expectations. It’s about having that personal touch of the clients having a dedicated travel designer look after them the whole way through the lead up process and the travel itself- you’re actually a person with unique needs, rather than a number to us.

What has been one of your favourite travel experiences that you have created for a client?

I arranged for a family of twelve to go to ALL of the off the beaten track experiences. The itinerary included Sydney, Haggerstone Island (Far North Queensland), Bullo River Station (Northern Territory) and Southern Ocean Lodge (Kangaroo Island.)  They all got to spend great time together as they had Haggerstone Island and Bullo River on sole use basis (that means entirely to themselves!) They got to see the real rustic and authentic Australia as well as the iconic city of Sydney and finished it all off with the luxury of Southern Ocean Lodge.

True North - Evening Drinks2 copyBeing in the industry for so long you would have seen so much of our beautiful country. Where is your favourite Australian travel location and why?

I have two – Bullo River Station; loved this for the unique, 6 star experience that you can’t get anywhere else in Australia.  Experiencing what life is like on a remote station and seeing the vastness of the property was something that blew me away, I can only imagine how this would feel for an overseas guest. And I also love Qualia for its location, and level of luxury – you can enjoy the Reef or just relax in your private plunge pool. This is where I spent my ‘babymoon’ just before my daughter was born.

You’ve told Glam that The Tailor adds those personal touches to all their journeys. What unique, different or out of the ordinary experiences have you created for a client that you have loved?

One year we brought an incredible magician to the Park Hyatt Sydney to entertain the younger children of a family in their suite on New Year’s Eve. We love adding those personal touches; I once arranged for some Root Beer to be flown to Orpheus Island for a Dad & Grandfather to pour on their son/grandson’s cereal for breakfast one morning as a prank.

We know The Tailor manages to cover everything for their clients, down to the finest details. What have you pulled off for a client that you thought was impossible or they thought was impossible?

Generally we pull things off because we have excellent contacts who make things happen that generally wouldn’t. Things like getting access to exclusive nightclubs or concerts that have already sold out. I also once managed to find a guest’s laptop at Sydney airport when they had left it behind. That was one of my first Tailor experiences! A tricky one and one I’d probably prefer to never have to repeat again.

The Tailor prides itself on going above and beyond. What extra bits of ‘sparkle’ have you added that a client wasn’t expecting, yet loved?

We’ve organized so many surprises with suppliers. We pass on as many details about clients before they travel.  So for example, hosts and guides know if it’s someone’s birthday and they are spoilt on the day.  A really special moment was having a honeymoon couples “bridal dance” picture emailed through, printed and framed and in their room at Qualia on arrival for their first stop in Australia – they hadn’t seen any of their wedding pictures before leaving home, that was definitely sparkle.

We know you create brilliant itineraries every day. Talk us through what one of these itineraries looks like.

BERKELEY_AIS_1 copy cropA brilliant itinerary features Australia’s big four heroes – Wildlife, Outback, Reef and City. We find with these contrasting experiences the guests go home having seen the true variety of things that Australia has to offer. But we often find it’s also only touched on what there is to offer and you leave them wanting to return again.

We’re so lucky that our beautiful country, and even our own state, is so diverse. There’s an experience to suit every traveller.

Learning about all these incredible Australian trips has just reinvigorated our inner wanderlust. If you’ve got the travel bug like we do and want to experience the utmost luxury, customer service and careful attention to detail you need to look no further than The Tailor.
