South Australian Eco-Tourism business Murray River Walk has created two new unique river tours; Murray River Safari and Murray River Escapes, in readiness for recovery in the visitor economy.
Their new website, re-branded as Murray River Trails will be launched on the 20th May – www.murrayrivertrails.com.au.
The Riverland company will build on the success of Murray River Walk and broaden its appeal within domestic and international markets, especially with New Zealanders keen to start travelling again – a market that already loves Australia’s greatest river.
Owner operators, Tony and Susie Sharley, are confident that as travel restrictions are lifted and South Australians start travelling again, they will discover the exciting new tourism developments in the Riverland, already popular with the interstate market.
Building on the success of their Renmark-based multi-day walk where small private groups are guided each day along the river arriving at their houseboat accommodation that travels with them, the new Murray River Safari will offer a shorter duration tour (3 days, 2 nights) with more diverse
These including backwater canoeing, driving to outback lakes for birdwatching and a cultural walk with Aboriginal rangers. Mr Sharley said that “our customers often suggest these extra activities – so we have created a new product to include them and cater for visitors with less holiday time – ideal for the international market and for South Australians wanting to create a long weekend break.”
The second new product, Murray River Escapes will attract private groups of friends, families, and corporate groups. A standard tour will involve a “come aboard” houseboat driver moving the houseboat accommodation each day for up to 4 hours, taking the stress out of navigating, mooring, and transferring through a river lock. Customised itineraries can be created by choosing from 10 activity modules on and off the river, including a chef cooked dinner on board or a guided brandy, wine, and spirits tour in the Riverland.
“We have many fond memories hosting friends and family on houseboat journeys. It is relaxing and a great way to spend time together. We wanted to help make that easier for people and give them the opportunity to tailor their holiday to include the best of the region” said Mr Sharley.
Mr Sharley acknowledged the support of more than 60 Riverland businesses who supply and help showcase the best of the region through the tour experiences offered by Murray River Trails.
