Award-winning show, Secret Recipes, brings culture and connection to Fringe

Award-winning Fringe show Secret Recipes taking you on a journey of belonging, through food, arts, story and music by immersing you in culture.

Award-winning Adelaide Fringe show, Secret Recipes, has returned to this year’s program, cultivating culture while curating a safe and welcoming space for all.

From First Nations chefs to newest neighbours, ‘Secret Recipes’ takes you on an immersive journey of welcome and belonging, through food, arts, story and music. Produced by Welcoming Australia, guests will explore shared traditions and new stories, while indulging in a mouth-watering meal.

After taking home the Bank SA Best Event in 2019, Refugee Stories, Secret Recipes and Dinner is returning. The significant achievement for a community-led initiative speaks to the power of human stories shared over good food and genuine conversation.

Throughout the season, a range of performers will share stories, music, poetry and arts, while chefs will prepare and serve delicious dishes.

No performance will be the same – come along to one, two, or all three of the events throughout the 2022 Adelaide Fringe season to experience an immersion into cultural experiences that activate every sense. A different cuisine and culture will be explored each week, taking guests on a journey across the globe.

Welcoming Australia is a non-partisan movement and organisation committed to cultivating a culture of welcome and advancing an Australia where people of all backgrounds have equal opportunity to belong, contribute and thrive.

Established in Bowden’s Welcoming Centre in 2013, the space is a safe, supportive and welcoming space where recently arrived refugees and people seeking asylum can access a range of services. These include access to emergency food supplies, supplementary English classes, ACE courses (Adult Community Education) in digital literacy and job readiness, monthly community dinners, a community garden, employment assistance and social support.

Welcoming Australia creates supportive and welcoming spaces where recently arrived refugees, people seeking asylum, migrants and everyday Australians can build authentic relationships, intercultural connections and understanding.

The Centre exists to help people to engage more effectively in the diversity of Australian life.
