Awards Celebrate The Art of Food

Entries to the prestigious 2011 SA Premier’s Food Industry Awards are now open, with a VIP launch at the JamFactory on Wednesday May 4th revealing ‘the art of food’ theme for this year’s event.

Now in its 14th year, the Awards provide an opportunity for South Australian food businesses to celebrate their achievements and recognise industry excellence.

The Minister for Food Marketing, John Rau, encourages South Australian businesses involved in the food industry to enter before 29 July.

“The Awards enable eligible businesses to not only be recognised and rewarded for their hard work but also to benchmark themselves nationally and even internationally,” Mr Rau says.

“It is also a chance to build your business profile by showcasing your success, and encourages further growth of the State’s burgeoning food industry.

“Last financial year our food industry injected a record $12.4 billion to the SA economy and employed 135,000 people.”

This year’s theme marks an exciting time in the food scene, with the introduction of the Food Marketing portfolio earlier this year and the Government moving to protect high value agricultural areas.

The Awards culminate in a presentation gala dinner, to be held at the Adelaide Convention Centre on 25 November, while finalists will be announced on October 12.

For the first time, the events program will feature an exclusive Kudos Club Gallery, with artworks by some of the State’s most unique artists available for sale.

Channel Seven journalist Nuala Hafner, who is also the daughter of local food identity Dorinda Hafner, will host the gala dinner which is open to the public.

Award categories are: South Australian Food Industry Hall of Fame, Visionary Leader (industry/young), Valuing Workforce Development, Creating Sustainability, Developing Markets (Domestic/International), Fostering Value Chain, Growing Small Business, Leading Innovation, Servicing Industry and Understanding Consumers.

A range of networking opportunities will also be held throughout 2011 for businesses involved, while a new function will be held in June with new corporate partners Advantage SA and Food SA.
