Australian actor, television presenter, and Adelaide-born stage legend Hugh Sheridan will grace the stage at the 2024 Carols by Candlelight.
Best known for his role as Ben Rafter in the television series Packed to the Rafters, Sheridan is a four-time Logie Award winner, in the Most Popular Actor category.
Sheridan joins sensational SA artists for this year’s St John Carols by Candlelight including the powerhouse Gospo Collective, the award-winning Festival Statesmen Chorus, stars from State Opera SA, Dancers by Donna, the Adelaide Concert Orchestra, and the Adelaide Philharmonia Chorus.
Hugh Sheridan shared his enthusiasm for the event.
“I can’t wait to take the stage and sing carols! It’s one of the most joyous and heartwarming experiences. Singing carols brings people together in a way that few other things can,” he said.
“I have the best memories of enjoying Carols with my late father, who would be so proud to see me on stage at his favourite event of the festive season.”
St John Ambulance SA CEO Mark Groote says including local performers is always a top priority to the organisation, who have been the proud custodians of Carols since 2022.
“We’re incredibly fortunate to attract such talent to perform alongside Hugh and other esteemed artists like Dami Im, Emma Memma, and Mark and Eva Seymour. This year’s 80th event promises to be unforgettable!” he said.
St John Carols by Candlelight is one of South Australia’s most cherished holiday traditions. First held in 1944, the event attracted around 50,000 attendees, almost 10% of South Australia’s population at the time.
This year, the beloved community event is expect to host 15,000 in Elder Park/Tarntanya Wama, and the 80th St John Carols by Candlelight will be broadcast nationally on Channel 7, as well as 7Two and 7Plus on 15 December 2024, with a special airing on Christmas Day.
