Backwater Blues and Roots Festival at Fox Creek Cellar Door

SATURDAY 27 OCTOBER 1-5 pm : Brendan Gallagher and Chris Finnen
SUNDAY 28 OCTOBER 1-5pm : Jeff Lang and Cal Williams Jnr with Kory Horwood

Over two days, October 27 – 28, Fox Creek will showcase the eclectic Blues and Roots culture of Australia through four live performances by five of the country’s most talented musicians.

The performances are a part of the Backwater Blues and Roots Festival 2012.

Featured artists include Brendan Gallagher, Chris Finnen, Jeff Lang and Cal Williams Jnr, who will be joined by jazz double bassist, Kory Horwood for this exclusive festival performance.

Fox Creek Marketing Manager, Kristin McLarty is looking forward to the two day event, which will celebrate South Australia’s vibrant festival culture in the picturesque setting of McLaren Vale, one of the state’s key wine regions.

“Our Cellar Door and the grounds surrounding it are the perfect location for this festival and we feel very privileged to have a selection of such talented artists joining us here at Fox Creek” said Kristin.

“Fox Creek has a vested interest in supporting the arts and the festival culture of our state and we feel this is the perfect way to bring this culture together with our favourite things; wine, local produce, McLaren Vale and having a great time!”

CEO, Paul Rogers explained that music events at Fox Creek always bring a diverse and lively crowd.

“The Grigoryan Brothers performed here in May as a part of the Adelaide International Guitar Festival and it is always wonderful to see the audiences and buzz these performances bring to our venue.”

“The Backwater Blues and Roots weekend will be no exception as it is a family friendly event. Children thirteen and under are welcome at no charge so we encourage everyone to bring their family and friends along for a relaxing weekend on the beautiful Fleurieu Peninsula,” he added.

Each of the artists performing at Fox Creek for the Backwater Blues and Roots Festival has extensive talent and involvement in Australia’s Blues and Roots music scene.

Brendan Gallagher is a musical all-rounder, producer of records like Jimmy Little’s Messenger, author of The Open Tuning Guitar Book for Guitar but he is best known as singer and guitarist with ARIA award winners Karma County.

Chris Finnen is a legend of the Australian music scene and who knows Fox Creek Wines well. He’s a genre-bending multi- instrumentalist who takes his influences from the blues and world music traditions and melds them into a style that is distinctively his.

Jeff Lang is one of the most prolific artists on the blues and roots circuit and has developed a reputation for startlingly original performances, working without a set list and allowing the unique energy of each night to shape the songs. He is a purveyor of his self- described “disturbed folk” style, which incorporates folk, blues and rock.

Cal Williams Jnr, described as a “brilliant and bewildering guitarist,” is a multi-award winning Blues singer/songwriter who has performed with a number of amazing artists, at a variety of leading venues and festivals.

In true Adelaide fashion, the Backwater Blues and Roots Festival has been nurtured and developed for and by the public.

Now in its fifth year, the 2012 program will cover an array of regional areas throughout South Australia; from McLaren Vale to Whyalla, while also creating a pop-up Juke Joint in the center of Adelaide at the Queens Theatre.
