Adelaide Airport experienced significant disruptions due to a baggage check-in system malfunction this morning. The incident caused considerable delays and long queues that extended from the check-in counters to the parking areas, affecting numerous flights.

The problem started around 5am, impacting major airlines including Qantas, Jetstar, and Virgin. Typically reliable systems broke down, forcing all baggage to be processed via the oversized items lane, which considerably slowed the procedure. By approximately 7am, the issue had been resolved, but not before causing substantial backup and continued delays throughout the morning.

Passengers experienced extended waiting times with lines stretching substantially. Among those affected were approximately 300 students and athletes headed to Melbourne, who faced anxious moments while staff manually processed their check-ins to ensure they would not miss their flight.

As of the latest update, Adelaide Airport announced that the conveyor belts and the overall baggage system were operational again. However, the effect of the morning’s disruption continued to be felt, with ongoing delays as operations slowly returned to normal.

Travellers are advised to check with their respective airlines for the most current flight information and to arrive at the airport sufficiently early to allow extra time for check-in and security procedures.

The airport management apologised for the inconvenience caused to passengers and has assured that steps are being taken to prevent a recurrence of this issue. As the day progresses, efforts to clear the backlog of flights and passengers are ongoing, with airport staff working diligently to restore normal operations.
