The Balaklava Cup has set a new benchmark in prize value for the Fashions on the Field competition this year, with a collective value of $12,000 up for grabs. They have also introduced exciting and novel new prize categories to the mix. The race day event will be held on September 3rd this year.
The $12,000 prize value is more than double last year’s prize value of $5,000. It also places the Balaklava Cup Fashions on the Field competition at the highest value of all competing country race meets in South Australia to date.
Cup organisers expect the attractive prize incentive will raise interest in competition entry as fashion-savvy fillies throw their fascinators into the ring.
Organisers also anticipate a general increase in fashion standards for 2014 as the race becomes increasingly popular with year on year growth in spectatorship. 2012 attracted a crowd of over 10,000 and 2013 attracted a crowd of more than 11,000. This year a crowd of 12,000 plus is expected.
The Balaklava Racing Club CEO, Doug Hall says, “the Balaklava Cup has become a ‘must attend’ event on the SA social calendar and has grown in popularity for many reasons, such as, we don’t tell people what they can do, we ask them how they would like to enjoy the day and then we try to make it happen for them. The day is about having fun and enjoying catching up with people and friends. It’s about mixing socially, eating and drinking in a really happy and relaxed atmosphere. It is just a great day out. For corporates there is a unique opportunity to have clients or colleges for a full day to develop relationships, with only a couple of minutes racing every half hour to interrupt networking and entertainment. The day works because it is many different things to many different people but pulled together by one simple fact – they all have fun.”
Balaklava Cup Fashions on the Field organisers have introduced two new prize categories including ‘best dressed couple’ and the novelty ‘stylish player’ award.
For the Best Dressed Couple category, judges will be looking for couples that look great together with an element of coordination evident in their styling. The winning couple will gain his and hers’ pearl cufflinks and earrings from Raw Pearls, plus a photography voucher for a photo shoot together at Photographyroom.
The Stylish Player award is less self-explanatory – judges will be looking for well-dressed males or females who have a ‘country edge’ to their attire. Fashion inspiration can be gained from RM Williams and similar brands. Entrants must have some experience riding a horse and the winner of the award will gain rare and exclusive ‘learn to play polo’ lessons with some of South Australia’s most talented polo players.
The Balaklava Cup Fashions on the Field prize pool is proudly 100% South Australian. The full list of prizes is as follows.
