Are you bored with the usual wine tasting, or maybe looking for something with a salty twist? Well, the Barossa has a salty, summery solution and it’s part unexpected, part delightful. This season, Elderton Wines is inviting visitors to rethink wine tasting altogether, pairing its easy-drinking wines with everyone’s favourite crunchy snack, potato chips.
Running throughout January and February at Elderton’s Nuriootpa cellar door, the potato crisp and wine-paired tasting showcases the winery’s Summer Small Victories Wine Co. range. Designed to be fun, approachable and perfectly suited to warmer days, the collection is all about freshness and pure drinking pleasure, without losing the Barossa character Elderton is known for.
The lineup includes whites, reds and a refreshing rosé, such as Pinot Gris, Vermentino and Rosé, alongside Sangiovese, Blended Fields, Shiraz and Grenache Mataro. Throughout the tasting, you’ll get to try a selection of these wines, thoughtfully matched with different styles of crisps.

The tasting runs for approximately 45 minutes and costs $35 per person, with bookings recommended online to secure a spot. It’s ideal for groups of friends, curious wine lovers or anyone keen to try something a little left of centre.
And if this sounds up your street, Elderton isn’t the only Barossa crew rewriting the tasting rulebook right now. Over on Seppeltsfield Road, Seppeltsfield Road Distillers has rolled out its own playful summer experiences, pairing gin with gelato or pickles for an equally memorable tasting experience.
Their gin and gelato tasting pairs house-made gins with the delicious creations of Beans and Cream in Tanunda, and the gin and pickle experience matches spirits with preserves from local Barossa producers.

Together, these experiences are all a bit of fun if you’re heading out to the Barossa this summer. So if you’re looking to break free from traditional tastings, consider this your sign to crunch, sip and explore your way through the region.
