If you’re yet to discover the beautiful Barossa spot that is Cimicky Wines, this winter is the perfect time to get acquainted. This boutique winery has just taken a big leap onto the world stage, earning top honours at two of London’s most prestigious wine competitions.

Cimicky Wines saw impressive results at the Decanter World Wine Awards (DWWA) in June, earning a Silver Medal and an impressive 92 points for their 2024 Cimicky Grenache. The DWWA is one of the most prestigious wine competitions in the world, celebrating excellence across the entire spectrum of the global wine industry.
“Our 2024 Grenache snapped up a Silver Medal and 92 points at the Decanter World Wine Awards, which is basically the Oscars of wine,” shared Nigel Sneyd, MW, Cimicky Winemaker.
“It also landed a Gold Medal and a By the Glass Certificate from the Sommelier Wine Awards, meaning it’s officially a go-to wine for the best bars and restaurants around the world.”
This Grenache is ruby-hued and super aromatic. It features notes of fresh roses, cranberries, and pomegranates, with a soft palate lifted by fine acidity and a delicate tannin finish. The team recommends enjoying it slightly chilled at around 14 degrees to highlight its bright, refreshing fruit flavours.

Cimicky’s 2023 Shiraz also made waves, picking up a Bronze Medal at the Decanter awards with a solid 86 points. Bold and expressive, this Shiraz is a proud nod to the winery’s commitment to showcasing the best of Barossa’s rich terroir and winemaking heritage.
Recognition at these international awards shines a light on these fantastic individual wines, while celebrating the passion, innovation, and craftsmanship behind every bottle at Cimicky. The Cimicky Estate sits on land with a rich history dating back to the early 1900s. The land, which was once used for growing fruit and dairy farming, was purchased by Karl Cimicky in the 1970s to help realise his vision of becoming a world-class Barossan winery. The estate was later expanded by his son Charles, who rebranded it and, alongside his wife Jennie, built a home on-site where they lived while Charles pursued his passion for fine winemaking, earning international recognition, including a royal pour at Buckingham Palace in 1995.

At Cimicky, great wine isn’t just about tradition, but also about embracing modern techniques and a fearless approach to making something truly special, and receiving these awards truly does cement this for the team.
If you’re keen to try some of these award-winning wines, you can find the Cimicky Estate tucked away in Lyndoch. And if you can’t make it to Lyndoch just yet, look out for Cimicky’s wines on your local wine list or bottle shop shelves. Because when the world’s top sommeliers and wine critics agree that something’s worth raising a glass to, it’s definitely worth the hunt.
