Basilico Sud is a new Italian haven in Hawthorn with a mouthwatering menu

Basilico Bud is the second instalment for owner, Lorenc Dylgjeri, who has branched out with another location following the success of his first eatery, Basilico Café.

There are two things Italians cherish more than anything else: food and family. And Basilico Sud in Adelaide’s inner south is the perfect combination of both.

The small, family-owned restaurant is the second instalment for owner, Lorenc Dylgjeri, who decided to branch out with another location following the success of his first eatery, Basilico Café.

In doing so this has allowed more Adelaideans the opportunity to sample what is ultimately some of the tastiest and most authentic Italian food in the city and to welcomed into Basilico’s extended family.

The Hawthorn-based eatery boasts an extensive menu that includes all of your favourite dishes from pizza and pasta to arancini, polenta and everyone’s favourite, burrata.

“We’re passionate about using only the best ingredients in all of our dishes,” explains Lorenc.

“We make a point of sourcing our produce from local suppliers whenever possible. We believe that using locally grown and produced ingredients not only supports our community but also helps to ensure that our dishes are as fresh and flavourful as possible”.

Stepping inside the warm and welcoming restaurant, you are instantly awash with the smells of freshly baked, wood oven pizza – a specialty at Basilico Sud.

The Sicilian-style pizzas have been developed to perfection by their passionate, onsite chef who hand stretches each and every base before topping it with fresh ingredients.

And while the extensive menu that includes vegan and gluten-free options is enticing enough, it’s the soul of the restaurant that sets it apart and has you coming back for more. The kind, inviting vibe is reminiscent of a big hug from Nonna and you’ll instantly feel like part of the family.

The staff are not only knowledgeable and able to help you pick a wine to best complement your meal, they are also passionate about what they do and treat each guest with open arms, as they would their own family.

In fact, you may have seen the restaurant’s name in the headlines a few years ago for this exact show of love and respect for one another. During the peak of the COVID pandemic in 2020, Lorenc and his staff presented front-line health workers at the Royal Adelaide Hospital with handmade pizzas, restaurant vouchers and a donation of $1000 to the Royal Adelaide Hospital Research Fund.

So, if it’s good, wholesome food and accommodating service that you’re after, a visit to Basilico Sud should most definitely be on the cards.

Basilico Sud is located at 45C Sussex Terrace, Hawthorn 5062.
