Adelaide Central Market celebrates Bastille Day with grand two-day event

On July 14th and 15th, locals and tourists alike will gather to commemorate France’s national day in a grand two-day event known as Bastille au Marché.

The Adelaide Central Market is set to ignite the spirit of France with its highly anticipated Bastille Day celebrations. On July 14th and 15th, locals and tourists alike will gather to commemorate France’s national day in a grand two-day event known as Bastille au Marché.

Bastille au Marché promises to be a feast for the senses, showcasing the best of French food, wine, and culture against the vibrant backdrop of South Australia’s love for gastronomy. With a diverse program of free and ticketed events, the festivities are expected to attract thousands of enthusiastic shoppers and families.

One of the highlights of the celebration will be the live performances by beloved market favorites such as Louise Blackwell and the French Set, Adelaide String Duo, Pamplemousse, and Mélange à Trois. Their music will infuse the air with a French flair, creating an enchanting atmosphere for all attendees.

In addition, visitors can indulge in a delectable selection of crepes from the pop-up crepe bar and witness a captivating Macaron Tower in red, white and blue cooking demonstration by Le Cordon Bleu.

For those seeking a more interactive experience, the French Market tour offers an opportunity to explore the market’s offerings while learning a little French and singing La Marseillaise. A special Monet-inspired Paint ‘n’ Sip class will allow participants to unleash their creativity and take home a beautiful watercolor masterpiece.

And what better way to toast to the occasion than at the pop-up Champagne bar by the French Wine Centre?

Families will also find plenty of entertainment options for their little ones. The Market’s July school holiday program will be in full swing, featuring activities such as the Market Trail, cupcake decorating, face painting, and roving entertainment.

It’s a chance for children to immerse themselves in the French ambiance and create lasting memories.

Valerie Henbest, the cheese expert from The Smelly Cheese Co., will present a special edition of Cheese After Dark, featuring a selection of artisan French cheeses perfectly paired with French wine and music. This event promises a unique sensory experience that will transport attendees straight to the heart of France.

Adelaide Central Market Authority’s French-born Commercial Manager Fabienne Reilly said the annual Bastille Day celebrations are a much-anticipated event for the community to come together to celebrate their food and culture from home.

“Our Market has an abundance of locally made French-inspired produce that our customers love including cheese, baguettes, charcuterie, terrine, pâtisserie and truffles”, Ms Reilly said.

“Bastille Day is a unique celebration, and we love working with the French community to showcase our culture through the abundance of French food available at the Market and our program of live music and activities.”

Among the traders participating in the celebration, Les Deux Coqs, an artisan French trader, will be presenting new products alongside their regular range of authentic handmade French fare.

Meanwhile, the Cheese and Bakery Collective, consisting of Dough, Say Cheese, and The Smelly Cheese Co., is ready to cater to the demands of food enthusiasts with limited-edition Bastille Day products, French cheese tastings, and a variety of French-inspired pastries including the ever-popular Raclette and Tartiflette.
