Beer and BBQ Fest took place over the weekend, showcasing all things beer, BBQ and live music.
This year was no exception, with immense talent being put on display with the Up In Smoke BBQ competition. ‘Up In Smoke’ is Adelaide’s first and largest Australasian BBQ Alliance sanctioned BBQ competition.
The competition is broken up into 5 delectable categories: Chicken, Lamb, Pork, Brisket, Pork Ribs.
Each category was scored using 3 criteria that included: Appearance, Texture and Taste. Those scores are then accumulated and ranked accordingly.
Lick of Smoke took the top spot for its chicken followed up by Big Smoke BBQ, and coming in third was Smoke Face Grillahs.
The lamb category saw the same victors in the previous category taking the podium positions, with Big Smoke BBQ coming up the rear in third, followed by Lick of Smoke in the second position and Smoke Face Grillahs taking the top spot.
The pork category shook things up a bit more with Big Smoke BBQ claiming victory, then Smoke Face Grillahs and Lazy Ass coming in second and third.
The battle of the brisket was next, with Big Smoke BBQ dominating once again with Low n slow Basics and What’s Your Beef trailing with silver and bronze.
Last but not least was the best pork ribs display with Jimmy Brisket coming to take home the gold and Moist BBQ taking home to silver, followed by Smoke Face Grillahs finishing off the podium places.
But there had to be one overall winner and the lucky BBQ-er was, say it with me, Big Smoke BBQ! Closely followed by Smoke Face Grillahs and Jimmy Brisket.
All in all, there were 24 competitors who displayed what they do best in all of their BBQ glory.
Beer & BBQ Festival is a unique hybrid event. Conceived over a beer, born in the Brick Dairy Pavilion at the Adelaide Showground in July 2015 and nurtured into the troublesome toddler it is now.
The event is now home to so many small, emerging and dominating businesses all showing their passion for this culinary delight.
