Battunga Weekend is opening the doors to five Adelaide Hills towns this weekend

Historic buildings, hidden gems, family fun and a packed program of events are set to transform the Adelaide Hills for Battunga Weekend this Mother’s Day weekend.

If you’ve ever travelled through the ever-charming Adelaide Hills and wondered what hidden gems lie behind the heritage facades, nestled within each quaint little town, your chance is about to arrive.

Battunga Weekend is returning on Saturday, May 9th and Sunday, May 10th, inviting visitors to explore five picturesque Adelaide Hills towns through a jam-packed program of free activities, open days, markets, workshops, and family-friendly fun.

Covering Meadows, Macclesfield, Echunga, Flaxley, and Prospect Hill, the annual event will have events and experiences for visitors of all ages. And best of all, entry to the open attractions is completely free.

Visitors can wander through the Prospect Hill Historical Museum, where free face painting will delight younger guests on Sunday, or enjoy a picnic among the stunning surrounds of Crystal Lake Sculpture Park before exploring the Adelaide Hills Ceramic Workshop and Gallery.

Art lovers won’t want to miss Kerraway Art Studio, home to acclaimed artist Kerryn Hocking, and history fanatics can dive into local military history at the Macclesfield RSL Hall and join free guided tours of the Macclesfield ANZAC Memorial Native Gardens.

Families can enjoy Flaxley’s Family Day featuring a farm animal nursery and free face painting on Saturday, alongside nature experiences at the Echunga Goldfields and Stringybark Nature Reserve.

Shopping enthusiasts can browse the Meadows Mother’s Day Market, hunt for treasures at the Battunga Lions Shed garage sale, or stop by local favourites including Atkins Farm Gate Shop, Echunga Trading Co, and the Meadows Nursery and Macrame sale.

Of course, no Adelaide Hills weekend would be complete without exceptional food, wine, and a few surprises along the way. Special ticketed events include a comedy festival, literacy festival, Irish bush dance, barre and pole dancing classes, winery experiences, and long lunches at local cafes.

The festival makes for the type of weekend where you can start with coffee, stumble across a sculpture garden, cuddle a baby goat, and somehow end up at an Irish bush dance. Frankly, that’s a very strong itinerary.

So whether you’re planning a family day out, a Mother’s Day adventure, or simply looking for an excuse to explore somewhere new, Battunga Weekend is one to add to your list.
