If you’ve ever watched a Hollywood film, you’ve probably entertained the thought of galloping on a beautiful horse along a beach off into the sunset. Occasionally, you may even witness someone trotting along the sand with their trusty steed and wonder how they got so lucky. Well, as it turns out, you don’t need luck (or a horse), you just need to get on to this amazing company we discovered, who are offering sunset horse rides and picnics!
Port Willunga Beach Rides allow you to experience the pure indulgence of riding along the pristine Port Willunga Beach or Silver Sands Beach in Adelaide.
Enjoy the many colours of the cliff faces, the sparkling sand, and the turquoise ocean paired with world famous views of our beautiful Fleurieu Peninsula.
Their rides are conducted on the lead with an experienced handler tending to each rider, making this experience perfect for all levels of rider ability.
Their horses, Dontai and Harry are big, gentle giants. They are half brothers and enjoy a relaxing beach ride together.
And just when we thought this couldn’t get more fabulous, we discovered they do picnic hampers as well. For $40pp, you can enjoy a beach picnic option for two (and up to 6 people on request), where you can feast on a handcrafted picnic filled with a selection of seasonal and local produce after your ride. Special requirements can be catered for with enough notice and all bookings need a minimum of 72hrs notice.
Sounds like a bloody fabulous way to spend an afternoon right?!!
And whether you choose to picnic or not, you can walk away leaving only fabulous memories behind. As the only approved horse riding operation on the beach, Port Willunga Beach Rides are committed to leaving the area as beautiful as they found it.
The options are (without the picnic factored in), the Port Noarlunga 60 minute beach ride experience or Silver Sands Beach 60 minute ride experience ($180pp), or the sunset rides on either beach ($200pp).
The package includes the ride, soft drink and handmade snacks to enjoy after your ride as well as photos at the end of the ride – but given how beautiful the whole experience is, you can always get the handler to take photos of you along the way (so you can leave your insta-husband at home!)
There is no minimum numbers to run a tour but you need to be at least 7 years old, and under 100kg. While 2 riders is their standard, they’re able to accommodate up to 4 riders per tour, on request.
If you’re anything like us, you’ll cap off the fabulous experience with a trip up the cliffs to Star of Greece, where you can then enjoy a sensational meal, or a platter, and some brilliant South Australian wine. Star of Greece is open for lunch Wednesday to Sunday, and from 6pm for dinner, Friday and Saturday.
