Becky Blake Takes The Stage In A One-Woman Show

After the success of the Piano Chicks series of cabaret shows over the last six years, Becky Blake, also the front woman for Adelaide cover band Chunky Custard, is taking her award winning solo cabaret show to her local neighbourhood.

A woman of many talents, Becky Blake will take the stage in her one-woman show, Confessions of a Piano Chick at the Marion Cultural Centre this August.

After the success of the Piano Chicks series of cabaret shows over the last six years, Becky Blake, also the front woman for Adelaide cover band Chunky Custard (and occasional contributor for us at Glam Adelaide, just FYI), is taking her award winning solo cabaret show to her local neighbourhood.

She’ll perform Confessions of a Piano Chick on solo vocal and piano, at Marion Cultural Centre on Friday 4th August at 8:00pm. Becky has recently moved into the Marion Council area and she is thrilled to be performing for people in her local area.

Becky says, “I am a huge advocate for keeping local music local. We moved to Marino for a sea change last year and I’m loving what’s available in the community. The Marion Cultural Centre is an amazing venue and the hub of entertainment in the area. I can’t wait to perform there.”

Confessions of a Piano Chick features the music of Carole King, Carly Simon, Joni Mitchell, Tori Amos and Sia as well as some original tunes. The journey between shows is highlighted with lugging her Peavey speaker from gig to gig.

The audience is a fly on the wall into all the glamour and behind the scenes gossip you’d expect from a piano chick including negotiating neurotic event organisers, sleazy bar owners and audiences behaving badly. Confessions of a Piano Chick recreates some of the strangest gigs Becky’s done in her career, which spans more than two decades.

“One of my favourites was doing a floorshow for a toilet company”, Becky explains. “It was such a surreal gig to to do. The costume is a lot of fun too. When I look back at some of the stories, I realise what a diverse career I’ve had and I’m keen to share this with audiences. It’s raw; the Piano Chick wearing her heart on a sleeve.”

Becky is proud to be recognised for her talents, winning a coveted Fringe award for Best Cabaret for Confessions of a Piano Chick at the 2017 Adelaide Fringe.
