Beloved butcher awarded SA’s best pet food

The Pet Butcher, an Adelaide-based pet food company, has recently been awarded the title of Best Pet Food Company 2024 in SA at the Australian Enterprise Awards.

The Pet Butcher, an Adelaide-based pet food company, has recently been awarded the title of Best Pet Food Company 2024 in SA at the Australian Enterprise Awards.

This achievement highlights the company’s growing influence in the pet food industry in South Australia and beyond.

Following a record-breaking start to the year, The Pet Butcher is set for further growth, owner and butcher Nick Martin said.

“2024 is going to be a great year. We’ve already had a couple of record-breaking trade days. We’re excited!” Nick said.

With this recognition, The Pet Butcher is looking to expand in a big way. Plans are underway to open a third store in Adelaide’s East and a new production facility in Hindmarsh. This will increase their production capacity and enable them to introduce home deliveries across Adelaide, starting in April.

The company is also exploring wholesale orders and export opportunities into Asia.

The new Hindmarsh facility will enhance their production processes, allowing them to maintain their commitment to quality and freshness.

“This new production facility will take our business to a new level,” said Nick.

“We’ve really struck a chord with our customers. We know that people love what we’re doing. Both of our stores are actually at capacity at the moment. So we’re super excited to expand.”

Founded last year by Nick, The Pet Butcher caters to a niche market in pet food, offering fresh, home-cooked meals for pets. Their approach to pet nutrition is straightforward – no processed food, just fresh and locally sourced ingredients prepared by a team that includes a chef, a butcher, and a baker. The menu includes a variety of meals using ingredients like salmon, sardines, chicken, and other local produce.

“This year we’re also bringing in new packaging equipment that will extend the shelf life of our product,” Nick added.

So those delicious treats will last longer, too.

And soon, Nick teases, South Australians will be able to treat their four legged friends in the Eastern suburbs too.

“We want a store on the other side of Adelaide. We’re looking at the East and we plan to make more announcements on that soon.”

But for now, with the addition of their Hindmarsh facility, The Pet Butcher  will level up their processes, and keep the tails of dogs all over Adelaide, wagging.

“I’ve got an amazing team. None of it would be possible without them.”
