Adelaide’s beloved pizzeria, Lost in a Forest, has announced its closure from January 1st, marking the end of an era.
Owner Charlie Lawrence took to Facebook to share the news, expressing his heavy heart over the decision to close the doors of the iconic venue.
“It’s been a spectacular ride with many ups and a few awful downs. A journey of 7.5 years that started life as a ‘hobby’ for Charlie Lawrence and Taras Ochota and then with Nick Filsell (as chef) coming on board to add legitimacy to our crazy project,” he said.
Throughout its years of operation, Lost in a Forest earned a special place in the hearts of locals and visitors alike, becoming a symbol of the Adelaide Hills’ unique charm. Known for its great pizzas, delicious local wines, and a playlist of unapologetic ’80s tunes, the venue played a pivotal role in the Uraidla township.
The owners reflected on the legacy they built, thanking everyone who had dined at their “wonky handmade tables” and appreciated what they put out into the universe.
“We proudly began the resurrection of the Uraidla township, a little piece of paradise in the Adelaide Hills and along with the Uraidla Hotel, we carved out a niche that locals, city folk, and people from around the world have grown to love,” they shared.
Many memories were created within the rustic walls of Lost in a Forest, where late nights were filled with laughter and ‘orange wine’ shared among diners, staff, and the ‘Friends of the Forest.’
The closure of the beloved venue leaves behind a treasure trove of stories that will forever be cherished by all who visited, worked, and played there.
Charlie Lawrence and the Forest team expressed their gratitude to the loyal patrons and hinted at new endeavors on the horizon. While Lost in a Forest may be closing its doors, they assured that innovative pizza in Adelaide would continue in a new form.
As the news spread, patrons and friends took to social media to express their appreciation. Andrew congratulated the owners “for realizing a dream and keeping that dream alive,” while Carlene thanked them for the memories, delicious pizza, and the special atmosphere they created.
Lost in a Forest’s closure marks the end of an era in the Adelaide Hills, leaving a legacy of good food, great wine, and unforgettable moments shared among friends and patrons.
