Big Shed Brewing, A much-loved South Australian brewery with a huge craft beer scene, faced an uncertain future when it entered voluntary administration last month, casting a shadow over its two-decade legacy.
Established in 2002 by Jason Harris and Craig Basford, the brewery encountered turbulence exacerbated by the challenges wrought by the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, a groundswell of support from both loyal patrons and industry peers has breathed new life into the brewery’s prospects.
In a recent Facebook post, the founders expressed gratitude for the unwavering support received during their darkest hour.
“Even in our darkest moments we knew we had something that was worth fighting for, because the public told us it was worth fighting for,” they wrote. The overwhelming response from the community, wholesalers, and suppliers has not only provided a much-needed financial lifeline but has also served as a powerful morale boost.
“We are grateful for the thorough work of Mark, Matt, and the team at HPL. They could see that our proposal was the best option for creditors and was a sustainable way forward,” the post continued. The unanimous agreement of suppliers to the restructuring of debts underscores a collective commitment to chart a path toward sustainability.
As the brewery navigates through turbulent waters, the steadfast support of patrons, families, and friends remains a source of strength.
“While our battle isn’t over, and the seas are still stormy; we have righted the ship and can face those headwinds with confidence,” the founders said.
The road ahead may be challenging, but with renewed vigour and unwavering community support, Big Shed Brewing stands poised to continue its legacy of crafting exceptional brews for years to come.
In the words of the founders, “We ask that you keep supporting us, keep supporting local independent beer and local business generally as it’s a tough time for us all and we all want to be there for our community long into the future.”
